The Mama-Pikin foundation

Hey guys!

As some of you may (or may not know) I'm half Sierra Leonean & my mother was brought up in SL. It's a beautiful country- you know the beautiful beach in the Bounty ads? It's in Sierra Leone. ;-)
However, the country was torn apart by a brutal & bloody civil war that the country just hasn't quite managed to recover from. The scars still remain with the people, families, women & children but also  in the country, land & infrastructure which has a direct impact.

Sierra Leone is in the Guinness World Book of Records, not for it's beautiful blue skies, seas & white sandy beaches but for having the highest rate of infant mortality in the world. Because health services and other necessary services have fallen to pieces. Now, innocent children & mothers are dying because they don't have money, help or resources. No pre natal care either and it's sad because children who are the future & can change the state of affairs in the country are dying, suffering when they are merely victims of  really unfortunate circumstances. The sad thing is, we have fertile ground, gold, minerals. The land we stand upon is rich and yet we the people are poor.

Rugiatu Bahr wants to change this, and so she has set up the Mama-Pikin (mother-child) foundation where she herself  goes and administers help by giving the people of a Sierra Leone the much needed help herself. A lot of  charities, particularly the big ones spend most of their money on admin & campaigns and hardly any money actually goes to the ones that need it, but not Rugi.

It's Rugi's 41'st Birthday soon, where she'll be having a fundraising even for the Mama-Pikin foundation with a target of $6000 though hopefully she can surpass it so she can work to secure a better future & hope to the mothers & children of Sierra Leone.

I appreciate that many of you, like me are too far to go to this event (although I would love to be in NYC), however if you still want to donate to the Mama-Pikin foundation, you can do so here or even just spread the word! :-) it would mean a lot to me but also more importantly the mothers & children of Sierra Leone who's lives you're helping to save.

Thanks for reading this :-)

Have a nice day/night,

Love & bright blessings as always,

-Dalanda xxx
