If they cared & they liked you,  they'd want to talk to you to see if you're really okay, what you're up to etc... they would find a way. If not it's cause they don't care & you should move on to someone that cares and will actually make an effort to keep in contact and see if you're okay.

This isn't just for love intrests, it goes for friends as well. A true friend will call/check up on you to see if you're okay and if you're doing well. Friendships and relationships require effort on both sides.
