"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Just one example of the crap that actually goes to print in this country... As you can see, The Economist have got it very wrong. But eh, what can you expect, Newspapers usually do, the media is so powerful and it brainwashes the minds of millions of us on a daily basis through advertisments, the news and even childrens programmes. As Banksy brilliantly put it:

"People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you.

You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.

Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.

You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.

It's sad how we're all conditioned in a way that we accept everything we hear/read/see from the media as Gospel, no one does their research.... we hear crap from the news, the 'famous' people, the advertisments,  and we read it on the newspapers; rarely are the things we see or read ever questioned. Because of this, they are able to control how we think, act and behave and most of the time, and we don't even realise it. No matter how stupid some of this things are mass amounts of people are like Oooh wow, Kanye west wears on shutter shades, let's all go out and buy them despite that fact that it's really hard to see from them and I look like a numpty; ooooh, loads of these celebrities have eyebrows that don't even look like hair anymore, let me just shave mine off and paint them back on again!

No, just... No. Where are the people with their own minds, own opinions and own styles? Where are the people that stand up for what they believe in and don't believe everything they hear from the media? Sadly, they're a dwindling number, and if they try to make a big change, the media will more often than not silence them so please people, make your own mind up.

Till next time,

Love,

Dalanda! :-) xxx
